A world of hurt

21 04 2010

Given it’s only a little under 3 weeks away, I thought I’d advertise an upcoming free public lecture I’m giving for the University of Adelaide‘s highly popular Research Tuesdays programme.

The Research Tuesdays team have done a fantastic job of putting together the associated promotional material, so I’m more or less going to reproduce it here.

The topic is about the global-scale evidence for declining human health from environmental degradation – it’s new research that I haven’t yet published, and so it’ll be exciting to start disseminating the amazing results my colleagues and I have found in a public forum.

So join us on 11 May at the University of Adelaide for what I promise will be an interesting (if not frightening) public lecture. Details below.

A World of Hurt: A true global death count of environmental degradation

It’s no secret that environmental degradation has been shown to have damaged people’s health, often fatally, in many specific cases.

Now, however, world-leading research at the University of Adelaide has linked the two on a staggering global scale.

Using data from over 100 countries, Professor Corey Bradshaw has examined the relationships between key indicators of human health and environmental quality and discovered a clear correlation, with dire implications.

As only one example, his findings indicate just a 10 % overall reduction in water quality would raise infant deaths by 35.5 million per year.

It’s vital information for people and planet. And in this important presentation, Professor Bradshaw will reveal the full story [download pdf flyer here].

When: Tuesday, 11 May 2010
Where: Napier Building, Lecture Theatre G04, The University of Adelaide

Hi Corey,

Will this lecture be available for download, sound or video. Should be easy to do and it reaches a bigger audience when we link to it.

Cheers
